Toca Boca makes digital toys from children’s perspectives. Primarily apps aimed at inspiring play and fun without any of the disruptive ads and interruptions.

My role as Creative Lead and Art Director was to launch a new game called Toca Hair Salon 4 and manage the new creative team. Conceptualizing and developing the strategy to launch the new game was the primary task. This also included working alongside the Product and Game Art teams whilst they still refined the final game and future updates.

Creating a social media launch, trailers, challenges, and conversation with Toca Boca fans to drive downloads of the game as well as promote the in-app purchases were the main objectives. I also crossed over and worked on the game itself alongside the Product Team.

The previous iteration (Hair Salon 3) was a best seller (57m active users) and the new version is expected to better those numbers. Being involved in ‘Playtests’ also gave valuable insight into the best way to position the game that would excite and encourage kids not only to download and play (for free) but also to share the content they created.
